Brain tumours are quite complex – at present, over 130 different types of ‘high grade’ (cancerous) or ‘low grade’ (non-cancerous) brain tumours are known.

Rowen Pestana

Executive Director

Rowen works in the Wealth Management Industry in London and lives in Buckinghamshire with his two sons. His wife, Sarah, tragically passed away in June 2017 after being diagnosed with a Grade 4 brain tumour.

Despite working full time, he still finds the time for charitable work and Rowen has made a consistent and tireless efforts to raise awareness and fundraise for a multitude of charities. Now he has taken the reins into his own hands, setting up Brainstorm with Puneet and Richard to contribute to the battle against the devastating disease.

Puneet Plaha

MBBS, MS, MD, FRCS, FRCS (SN)

Honorary Senior Research Fellow and Consultant NeuroOncology Surgeon.

My research interests are focused on using minimally invasive endoscopic techniques to resect brain tumours and advanced brain imaging technologies to develop individually-tailored treatment for brain tumours. I set up and have developed the Awake surgery Brain tumour programme in Oxford and use intraoperative stimulation to understand brain function and “supramaximally” resect brain tumours.

Mr Richard Stacey

MB BS, FRCS, FRCS (SN)

Richard Stacey has been a Consultant Neurosurgeon in Oxford for over 20 years.

In addition to a busy NHS practice, his specialist interests include surgery for Brain Tumours and Epilepsy.
For many years he has collaborated with the University departments of Functional Imaging and Pharmacology and has been responsible for the introduction of advanced functional imaging, including ultrasound and tractography, combined with neuronavigation to the operating theatre.

Peter Erskine

Graduated with a 2.1 honours Liverpool university in psychology.
Early career in marketing with companies like Colgate Palmolive and Mars.
Worked for BT 1993 to 2001 during which time spent three years running a Jv in USA called Concert.
Was appointed CEO of O2 when it floated from BT in 2001 with market cap of £6.7b. Sold 4 years later to Telefónica for £18b cash.
Chaired Ladbrokes 2009 to 2014 merging it with Coral.
Chaired Henley Business School and was a member of reading university council for 12 years ending 2019.
Married for over 40 years with 4 children and 5 grandchildren.
